Concord River

This is a first attempt to create a web page using HTML. The content is for testing purposes only and may not be completely accurate.

The Concord River starts in Concord Massachusetts at the junction of the Sudbury and Asabet Rivers. It runs through Concord, Carlisle, Billerica, Chelmsford and empties into the Merrimack River in Lowell.

The river is protected along much of its length with conservation land and wildlife preserves. Fishing is excellent with large and small mouth bass, blue gill, perch, carp, croppie, pickeral and northern pike. Many species of wild birds can also be seen along the route.

The Concord is also a drinking supply in Billerica. Steps to preserve the water quality are being undertaken by the Concord River Environmental Stream Team (CREST) by conducting shoreline surveys to target areas for river cleanup.

This year the cleanup was held on September 23rd behind the North Billerica Fire Station. The amount of trash collected this year has not been determined as of this writing. Last year the cleanup crew gathered nearly 10,000 pounds of trash.

CREST also attempts to educate the public and property owners along the river to be more careful when using fertilizers and insecticides. Runoff from these harmful chemicals create a negative environmental impact.

Failed septic systems may leach into the river as well. The bacteria from these septic systems contaminate aquatic life and plants.
